My Bed Is Made Of Wood by Jaime Sabines

My bed is made of wood
and creaks beneath the weight of breathless love,
but my bed is a motionless boat
that takes me where I want to go.
It carries my solitude better than I myself
and knows my dreams
and takes pity on me.
My bed is almost a cloud,
it’s a carpet for the footfalls of my heart.

In half-light, or in darkness,
in my bed I meet my wife, my children, my books,
my memories, and my cigarettes.
And I come across God, sometimes,
in the light of an afternoon like this,
that kisses closed eyelids with its fingertips.

I love my bed because I rest in it as in my death
and there I feel how life may yet triumph.

I am thankful because I have a bed
and it’s the same as if I had a river,
just the same.

  1. Hi there :) I'm your reader and always feel so motivated after reading your blog , may I know how do you stay skinny and fit at the same time ? I tried running , but I worried my calves may become bigger . Thanks and happy to hear from your advice soon !

    Regards,

    1. Hi Jill! It's so pleasant to know I have viewership on this space, never expected any. Thank you though, you're too kind!

Re staying skinny/fit: I don't recommend being "skinny", and that is not what I want to pass off as either. I am a strong believer in 'strong is the new skinny', and am definitely part of the large #fitfam community out there! It is all very simple really, all you need is a good diet, regular exercise and lots of self-discipline. I know the last one can be a wee bit tricky but once you get the hang of things, you will most definitely be on your way/closer to your goals!

I do run a lot, right now I clock ~5km a day for my upcoming competition and I do notice when I do intense periods of running my calves do look bigger but I'm not particularly bothered by it. I just make sure to stretch them out after running and take rest days when necessary. Swimming is a good way to tone your muscles too, you might want to give it a shot. It tires you out more than you think it does! Don't forget to add strength training to your routine too, good luck my dear!
